Uintah Marching Band

With school starting and the football season now in full swing, Jaina and Cameron don't have any more Marching Band performances. So, here are some pictures of their favorites hits!

A Sunday Stroll

We had Stake Conference this week. so it left us with more free-time after church than we were used to. So, to attempt to eliminate/avoid sibling quaffling and quarrels,
we went up the canyon to walk the trail at Steineker Reservoir.
Having complained that I "never take any pictures of me" by Jaina,
the following are some of her "modeling" for me on the hike.
This is Jaina shaking the boardwalk back & forth...

Yeah, she was done modeling
The boys were not nearly so contrary :)

Jaden was looking for frogs (there weren't any)

and Cameron was just, well, just Cameron...

Don't forget Rosie!!
Good ol' Rosie! Always comes running when I call.

Go Utes!

Cameron decided at the end of school last year that he was going to go out for football. Surprising us all, he went to every day of summer conditioning and training and is now on the starting lineup for the Freshman Uintah utes football team. Go figure, huh?

He's # 72

He has had 2 games so far: Red vs White scrimmage (pre-season opener)

(look far left)

and then their first "real" game against Green River, WY. Uintah won 33 - 13!!

Cameron's Tae Kwon Do stuff

Cameron's Tae Kwon Do class did a demonstration at the Vernal Farmer's Market this past Saturday. Here he is demonstrating a form that he is preparing to test on next month.
The form is called "Joon-gan"
The class then demonstrated some sparring. Each child paired up with a partner and they took turns taking each other down. I think the kids really enjoyed this part :)

Back to School Once Again

It's Back to School Time and once again, I am attempting to update our blog.
With Jason currently living in Wendover and the rest of us are in Vernal, I figured this would help us stay connected.

As is becoming the norm, I was only able to get group pictures of the kids on their first day of school at home. Cameron let me take a solo shot:

and I was able to get a brothers shot,

but no pictures of Jaina, (sniff-sniff) she won't let me!

Cameron is in 9th grade this year, but remember, Vernal is "different" and their 9th graders are at the Jr. High, not the High School. So, even though he is a FRESHMAN, he isn't there. Weird, huh? He is taking Tae Kwon Do, playing football, in the marching band and planning on the fall play as well. We will see how he balances it all.

Jaina is in 7th grade at the Middle School, and while it has been an adjustment for her to be at that school without her Daddy, she likes her classes and so far so good. She is considering trying out the french horn....(Correction: Jaina just informed me, "No, I AM going to play the french horn") We shall see. Her dance studio is temporarily closed, so we have had many drama-issues as she goes through dance withdrawal and trying to find a new teacher. Nobody is Ms. Barbera, and "I hate change!"

Jaden is in the 5th grade and it is his last year at Discovery Elementary. He has been assigned to what many say is the strictest teacher in the school. But if you ask him, "she's alright" and "I like her". Explore it a little more and you discover he's has had her for centers last year and already thinks he is "a sweet, smart boy". Boy does he have her fooled (just kidding!!!) Jaden's still swimming for the Vernal Vipers and Fall season starts after Labor Day.

So, the kids keep me busy, which is good, because I miss work a lot and not having Jason around is a big adjustment for all of us. We are doing good and ready to see what comes next...

"Fun Size Band" Fall Preview

Cameron is still playing the sousaphone, or "booba" as I like to call it.
Saturday night was the Uintah High School Marching Band Fall Preview show.
The band director has opted this year to include his Jr. High band students in the marching band.
They get their own segment of the half-time show with their own choreography (if that's what you call it for bandos) and even a flag corp! They call them:
The Vernal "Fun Size Band"

watch for Cameron...he's the one with the sousaphone...
it's big and white.....wait for it...the tuba is coming.......

wait for it......

there he is!!!
talk about a Mommy-Moment! (sniff-sniff!)

Who designed this football field, anyway?
Setting up the bleachers to look straight into the sun as it sets? Genius!

I will have you know that I was NOT the loudest mom in the stands.
Some crazy woman behind me kept yelling, "Yeah! Fun Size Band!" No, I did not turn around and look to see who it was. Cam doesn't understand why not.

The End

Uintah High football doesn't have a good schedule this year. They only have 2 home games, and they lost their first one, 37-0. First game of the season. Bummer.
Anyway, the Fun Size Band only has 1 performance left, they will play at the away game in Ephraim,
held at Snow College, Friday, Sept. 2nd. So, if you want to go to Ephraim, you can catch Cameron, his booba and his adoring fans (us) at Snow College. (time TBA)

Back to School!

1st day of school was Wednesday, Aug. 24th.
This year, I have 3 kids at 3 different schools: Cameron at the Jr. High, Jaina at the middle school and Jaden at elementary. So, being the picture taking momma that I am, I made the kids pose for their annual back to school pictures.
Here is Cam's "smolder"....
Cameron: "Hey!" (sniff!) I am so proud of my 8th grader...

Here's Sissy, soooooOOOoooo ready for 6th grade and the middle school with Daddy!

"I'm SO not related to that guy back there..."
"Mom! Make him go away!"

Now, Jaden, aka "Bubba" is the only child that still willingly lets me go into the school and classroom with him the first day to take pictures. Cam and Jaina? I drop them off and drive away. (sniff-sniff)

So, off we went to Discovery Elementary School, still undergoing renovations, to find the 4th grade hall.
Here's Jaden walking around the classroom, choosing the perfect desk....

Found it!

"Where is that pencil???"

"I know I put it in here somewhere!!!"

Aaahhh, the joys of the first day of school! Mom gets up early and packs some lunches and helps find lost items. I always double check all the bookbags to make sure they have appropriate items in them and nothing important is missing. I only had to confiscate 1 GameBoy this morning. 2 guesses whose it was...
